A passion for beer: that was the start of the Amburon Belgian Craftbrewery NV. Brewing quality beer in line with Belgian tradition but with room for innovation is their aim. Amburon Belgian Craftbrewery was founded in early 2016 by Davy Daniëls in partnership with Carlo De Baere and Jan Jacobs.

Davy Daniëls (Managing Director) grew up with a love of beer and has spent his entire working life in the beer world. His grandfather started up a drinks store in 1961 that survives to this day and now sells around 600 Belgian beers. Our brewery is right next to the store, at Hasseltsesteenweg 617 in Tongeren.

Carlo and Jan wanted to take on one more new challenge in their entrepreneurial lives. Their training as beer sommeliers had ignited their passion for Belgian beer and when, at the end of 2014, they met Davy, they looked together into the possibility of expanding an existing beer brand.

Along with his childhood friend and master brewer, Bart Durlet, Davy Daniëls launched a blond city beer for Tongeren, called Amburon in 2009. This beer gave the brewery its name. It shows the brewers’ pride in their city and pays homage to the history of Tongeren* and to Belgian beer.

* Amburon is a reference to Ambiorix, the chief of the local tribe of the Eburones. He led a successful revolt against the Roman occupier. His statue stands at the heart of Tongeren city centre.

Bert Housen has been our master brewer since 2016. He previously worked for the Anders brewery and he was trained by Bart Durlet, who founded our brewery with him. Bert has a wealth of experience with a wide range of beer types and styles. He manages production at Amburon Belgian Craftbrewery NV.

Our brewery in Tongeren will be operational from August 2016. Amburon Belgian Craftbrewery NV brews beer for its own TUNGRI brand and also on behalf of other beer firms and importers of high-quality Belgian specialty beers with different labels and recipes.

The brewery uses the very best equipment, including wooden foeders for long-time cold storage of certain speciality beers. We have a 2,000-litre brewhall and our initial production capacity will be around 400,000 litres per annum. Amburon Belgian Craftbrewery has its own bottling and barrel filling facility.

Our tasting room has opened her doors in 2017. Group visits can be booked via (daytrip – guided visits). You can also find us at Want to stay up to date with all developments regarding our brewery and TUNGRI? Please Follow us on Facebook.

Mission and Vision

To allow a wide audience as well as keen beer lovers to enjoy and be amazed by beautiful Belgian specialty beers.

The demand for specialty beers is growing around the world. Craft beers brewed on a small scale are growing in popularity, particularly among women and younger beer lovers.

We have seen exponential growth in the number of speciality beers and breweries around the world. In this growth market consumers are becoming more demanding, have a more discerning taste and also keep an eye on the price. Our aim is to craft quality and affordable beers.

Amburon Belgian Craftbrewery NV wants to stand out through innovation rooted in the Belgian beer tradition. In line with this tradition we aim for balanced and accessible beers, with a pure taste – that are sometimes just a little bit different from what you are used to. We keep track of the latest trends in maturation on wood, the use of wild yeasts and up-and-coming beer styles. All of our beers are brewed with artisan methods. Utmost attention to detail and precision are essential to the quality of the beer.
